So you’ve found the ideal opportunity for you at the CCC – what’s next?

We recruit all of our employees on the basis of merit: the extent to which you have the abilities, aptitude, skills, qualifications, knowledge, experience and potential for development to undertake the role.  Our recruitment processes and employment practices are designed to ensure fairness, equity of access, responsive and inclusive. We want to make sure that we select the right person for the right job using fair and transparent processes. Depending on how far you progress in the selection process you’ll usually have a few opportunities to showcase your capabilities in different ways.

As part of our commitment to building an inclusive and diverse workforce we encourage people from under-represented groups to apply for our roles. These groups include:

  • Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people
  • People living with disability
  • People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • LBGTIQ+ people

If you identify as being part of one of these groups and you need an adjustment to, or have a concern about, the selection process please don’t hesitate to let the nominated contact for the role know so that they can accommodate you.

Applying for one of our roles might seem time-consuming, and even a little daunting, particularly if you are not familiar with Queensland government recruitment processes. Every process will be a little different because every role and candidate pool is different, but we have outlined some of the key stages in the selection process below. For more information about the specific process in the role that you’re applying for please review the advertisement and if required seek advice from the nominated contact.

Our role descriptions will include information on how to apply for each role that is advertised. Often this includes a detailed resume and a cover letter or written application responding to specific selection criteria. In some cases there may also be a questionnaire included in the online application process. Please refer to the details in the advertisement and the role description to ensure you understand what is required for each role.

Closing dates are strictly enforced so that we can be responsive and timely in undertaking the selection process. If you can’t submit by the deadline you may seek permission to submit a late application from the nominated contact, but please note that this decision is entirely discretionary.

All applications need to be submitted through the Queensland Government Smart Jobs and Careers website. You will need to register a profile with the website if you haven’t already got one.

Your application will be considered against the role description to assess whether your skills, knowledge, abilities and experience meet the requirements of the role. Our candidate pools are always competitive so not all applicants will progress beyond this initial screening stage. If you aren’t progressing to the next stage you will be notified by email as soon as possible.

There are a range of techniques that we use to assess a candidate’s suitability for a role.  Most commonly you will be invited to a structured interview with a panel. Other techniques could include the provision of work samples, undertaking skills tests, response to stimulus, or delivering prepared presentations. The aim of all of our selection processes is to find the most meritorious candidate for the role, based on the competencies outlined in the role description.

Due to the confidential and often sensitive nature of the worked performed at the CCC, it is imperative that every reasonable precaution is taken to protect our people and our information. As part of our recruitment process we conduct a security vetting process to assess whether a candidate’s trustworthiness, discretion, reliability and good character are sufficient to be appointed to a role at the CCC and hold a security clearance. This normally occurs after the competency-based assessment and if it applies to you, you will receive specific instructions from the panel.

A range of assessments are done depending on your personal circumstances, but as part of the process we seek to:

  • Ascertain your identity to verify that you are who you say you are.
  • Verify your background to check that the information you have provided through your application is accurate.
  • Make a judgement about your character including police, financial and other government system checks, interviewing your referees and assessing your background.
  • Verify your financial situation to ensure that you are living within your means and are therefore not unduly exposed to a potential conflict of interest.

In undertaking the security vetting process you will be required to provide statutory declarations and supporting documents. In-depth personal and financial information is required to be supplied in relation to you and your family.

The security vetting process can take time to complete depending on the complexity of your circumstances, but we will endeavour to keep you informed of progress where we can.

Your experience as a candidate is very important to us. Given the high number of applications we receive for our roles, as well as our rigorous selection processes, the time to complete each selection process does vary and can occasionally take longer than expected. We are committed to keeping candidates informed of the progress of the selection process as much as possible.

Unlike many other public service agencies, our people are employed through the Crime and Corruption Act 2001, rather than the Public Service Act 2008

On a day-to-day basis you might not notice much difference in your employment conditions. Our salaries are in accordance with the State Governments Entities Certified Agreement 2019, we offer secondments into and out of other public sector agencies, and in most cases we will recognise previous service with other public sector agencies and accept leave balances that you bring with you. As much as possible we try to ensure that our employment conditions mirror those found elsewhere in the Queensland Public Service.

If you are the successful candidate, depending on the role, you may be employed under either the Queensland Public Service Officers and Other Employees Award – State 2015 or an individual contract of employment as required by the Crime and Corruption Act 2001.  Either way, you will receive a letter of offer outlining your employment conditions for your consideration. If you have any questions about the offer you can get in touch with the contact from the HR team referenced in the letter of offer.

If you aren’t the successful candidate we want to make sure that you are able to receive timely and relevant feedback about your application.  Please get in touch with the nominated contact for more information about the status of the selection process and your application.
