The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has issued two men with Notices to Appear in court over their alleged involvement in boiler room investment frauds on the Gold Coast.
The charges are the result of the CCC’s Operation Lima Violin II.
The CCC will allege the men were involved in the management and sale of fraudulent investments through the company Tropical Point Pty Ltd.
The CCC today issued a 33-year-old Broadbeach Waters man with a Notice to Appear in court on one charge of fraud contrary to section 408C of the Queensland Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 12 October 2015. The CCC will allege he cold called victims, pretending to be a licensed broker, and sold fraudulent investment products.
The CCC today also issued a 32-year-old Broadbeach Waters man with a Notice to Appear in court on one charge of fraud contrary to section 408C of the Queensland Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 12 October 2015. It will be alleged he cold called victims to sell investments on the stock exchange. The CCC will allege none of the funds received were ever invested on the stock exchange, and were instead withdrawn in cash. Most of the cash was allegedly withdrawn within 24 hours of it being received.
In April 2015, the CCC charged two other people in relation to the financial management of Tropical Point Pty Ltd (see earlier media release).
Operation Lima Violin II is ongoing.
As these matters are now before the court, the CCC is unable to comment further.
