Two people have been charged with money laundering and fraud offences after being identified during an ongoing Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation into cold call investment frauds.

These two individuals are the first people to be charged since the CCC commenced Operation Lima Violin II in June 2014. Operation Lima Violin II is focused on a number of companies based on the Gold Coast allegedly involved in cold call investment frauds.

The CCC will allege these offences relate to the financial management of a company called Tropical Point Pty Ltd between February 2011 and June 2011. The CCC’s investigation has revealed investors in this company collectively sustained a total loss in excess of $700,000.

The CCC will further allege the two individuals charged were employed by a private investigations firm on the Gold Coast at the time of the offences.

A 35-year-old male from Helensvale was served with a Notice to Appear in Court yesterday (1 April 2015) to face one charge of fraud contrary to section 408C(1)(d) of the Queensland Criminal Code and one charge of money laundering contrary to section 250(1)(a) of the Criminal Proceeds Confiscation Act 2002.

He is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 26 May 2015.
