This report considers whether the Queensland Police Service and the Criminal Justice Commission should have the power to intercept telecommunications in certain prescribed circumstances.

Mr Fitzgerald QC, in the Report of the Commission of Inquiry (1989), identified this as one of the issues which should be considered in any comprehensive review of powers relevant to law enforcement in Queensland. He also observed that the Commission's Official Misconduct Division was likely to require the power to intercept telecommunications to enable it to discharge its functions effectively.

This report was tabled in Parliament on 15 February 1995.
