Since January 1992, the Operational Procedures Manual (OPM) of the Queensland Police Service (QPS) has required that all police pursuits ending in death or serious injury be reported to the Criminal Justice Commission (CJC).
This paper provides a detailed analysis of police pursuits recorded by the Criminal Justice Commission (CJC) for five years from 1992-93 to 1996-97 and discusses how the risks and costs associated with police pursuits in Queensland can be reduced.
