The Crime and Corruption Commission supports International Access to Information Day (IAI Day), held annually on 28 September to recognise the unique value of your right to access government-held information. In Queensland, IAI Day is led by the Office of the Information Commissioner.
This year’s theme of ‘Mainstreaming Access to Information and Participation in the Public Sector’ highlights how Democracies are strengthened when the community can regularly provide input into, and help shape, government decision-making in an impactful way, known as mainstreaming public participation in government.
Mainstreaming access to information and participation in the public sector go hand-in-hand. When the community can access government-held information in a timely and efficient manner, it helps individuals and the wider community to stay informed, reduces misinformation and it empowers people to make decisions about matters affecting them.
The CCC is committed to providing access to the information it holds, unless this is considered contrary to the public interest. Queensland’s the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009 are part of a broader framework supporting us to meet community expectations for a more open, transparent and accountable government.
