A 48-year-old Windaroo man was charged today with official corruption, perjury and failing to correct his Register of Interests.

He was charged at the Beenleigh Watch-house following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.

The CCC will allege the man knowingly gave false testimony at a public hearing related to Operation Belcarra.

The CCC will also allege that its investigation uncovered evidence with respect to the other charges laid against the man.

The 48-year-old man has been charged with:

  • 2 x perjury contrary to section 123 of the Criminal Code
  • 1 x Official Corruption contrary to section 87 of the Criminal Code, and
  • 1 x Failing to correct his Register of Interests contrary to Section 171B of the Local Government Act 2009.

The man was bailed and is expected to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 17 April 2018.

As these matters are now before the court, the CCC is unable to comment further.

Operation Belcarra investigated the conduct of candidates involved in the 2016 local government elections for the Gold Coast City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Logan City Council and Ipswich City Council.

The CCC is an independent agency combating major crime and reducing corruption for the benefit of the Queensland community.
