Yesterday criminal proceedings were commenced against a 52-year-old man from Palm Island (Townsville) and a 46-year-old Townsville woman as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

The man and woman were both served with a Notice to Appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on 7 April 2020. They will both face one offence each of allegedly committing a fraud exceeding $100,000 contrary to section 408C of the Criminal Code. Proceedings have also been commenced against the man for an additional offence of allegedly failing to maintain his register of interests, which is a requirement under the Local Government Act 2009.

As the investigation remains ongoing and this matter is now before the court, it is not appropriate for the CCC to comment further.

The CCC is an independent agency combating major crime and reducing corruption for the benefit of the Queensland community.
