Two men will appear in court to face charges of defrauding a local Council and a beneficial enterprise, following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.
The CCC yesterday issued a 52-year-old Atherton Tablelands man with a Notice to Appear in the Atherton Magistrates Court on 1 September 2015 on the following charges:
- 5 counts of fraud contrary to section 408C of the Queensland Criminal Code.
- 5 counts of fraudulent falsification of records contrary to section 430 of the Queensland Criminal Code.
The CCC will allege that before resigning from his position at a Council, the man arranged a severance payment of more than $500,000 for himself and falsified supporting documentation.
The CCC will further allege that he fraudulently made four payments – worth a total of $58,400 – from a beneficial enterprise to, or for the benefit of, a 48-year-old Hopevale man. It will be alleged that the 52-year-old Atherton Tablelands man falsified documents to justify the payments.
The CCC today issued the 48-year-old Hopevale man with a Notice to Appear in the Cooktown Magistrates Court on 3 September 2015 on the following charges:
- 4 counts of fraud contrary to section 408C of the Queensland Criminal Code.
The CCC will allege that the man either received or benefited from the four payments arranged by the 52-year-old Atherton Tablelands man.
The CCC will not confirm or deny the identity of either of the men prior to their appearances in court.
As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC will make no further comment.
