A 52-year-old former Racing Queensland procurement officer and a 57-year-old Cashmere contractor are due to appear in court to face a range of fraud, forgery and misconduct charges following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.
Both men were served Notices to Appear in court on Saturday (6 May 2017) as part of Operation Yardage which is investigating alleged criminal practices relating to the awarding of Racing Queensland contracts for racetrack upgrades and enabling works on race courses in South East Queensland.
The 52-year-old former Racing Queensland worker from Ascot faces 10 charges including:
- 5 x Misconduct in Public Office (Section 92A(1)(a) of the Criminal Code Act 1899);
- 5 x Fraud (Dishonestly gain a benefit/advantage) (Section 408C (1)(d) of the Criminal Code Act 1899).
The 57-year-old contractor faces 16 charges including:
- 5 x Misconduct in Public Office (Section 92A(1)(a) of the Criminal Code Act 1899);
- 5 x Fraud (Dishonestly gain a benefit or advantage) (Section 408C(1)(d) of the Criminal Code);
- 3 x Forgery (Section 488(1)(a) of the Criminal Code Act 1899);
- 3 x Uttering (Section 488 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code Act 1899).
The forgery and uttering charges relate to the alleged forgery of quotation documents for works on Racing Queensland courses and it will be further alleged the quotations were sent to the 52-year-old procurement officer for processing.
Both men are expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 7 June 2017.
As these matters are now before the Court, the CCC is unable to comment further.
