A 43-year-old Townsville man has been charged with child exploitation offences following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.

The CCC will allege the man was in possession of child exploitation material and was using peer to peer computer software to access child exploitation material, including image and movie files.

CCC officers executed a search warrant at a residential address in Townsville last night.

A number of computer and electronic storage devices were seized and will be forensically examined by the CCC.  The CCC was assisted by members of the Queensland Police Service Townsville Child Protection Investigation Unit.

The 43-year-old man was arrested and charged at the Townsville Watchhouse on the following charges:

  • 1 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 228D (Qld Criminal Code 1899)
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i) & (aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)

The man was released on bail and is to appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court on 16 August 2016.

As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC is unable to comment further.

*Editor's Note: The court appearance date for this matter has been changed from 3 September 2016 to 16 August 2016. This media release was amended at 1pm on 22 July 2016.
