Three people were today served Notices to Appear in court on alleged official corruption charges relating to Etheridge Shire Council contract.
They are expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday 31 October.
A 71-year-old Charters Towers man will face the following charges:
- 1 x official corruption contrary to section 87(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
A 52-year-old Charters Towers female will face the following charge:
- 1 x official corruption contrary to section 87(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
A 47-year-old male company director from the Brisbane suburb of McKenzie faces the following charge:
- 1 x official corruption contrary to section 87(1) (b) of the Criminal Code.
The company director is alleged to have received in excess of $1,000,000 in contracted work from the Etheridge Shire Council between October 2013 and November 2016.
It is alleged the 71-year-old council employee received $120,492.90 in illegal payments through his wife’s credit union account.
He is no longer employed by the Council.
The 71-year-old man will also face a charge for an additional matter:
- 1 x stealing a set of handcuffs the property of the Commissioner of Police contrary to section 398 (1) of the Criminal Code.
The CCC will allege that the man stole a set of handcuffs from the Queensland Police Service a number of years ago.
As these matters afre now before the court the CCC is unable to comment further.
The CCC is an independent agency combating major crime and reducing corruption for the benefit of the Queensland community.
