A 29-year-old Sippy Downs man has been arrested and charged by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) with child exploitation offences.

The CCC will allege that a quantity of child exploitation material, including video and image files, were discovered by CCC detectives who executed a search warrant at the Sippy Downs address last night.

The man was identified by the CCC during an ongoing investigation that is focused on individuals accessing and distributing child exploitation material online.

The 29-year-old man was taken to the Maroochydore Watchhouse where he was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • 1 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 228D (Qld Criminal Code 1899)
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to make available child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(iii)&(aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)

The man was released on bail and is expected to appear before the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on 26 October 2016.

Investigations into child exploitation offences occurring in the peer to peer environment remain an area of focus for the CCC. As this matter is now before the courts, the CCC is unable to comment further.
