The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has charged a 76-year-old Strathdickie man with child exploitation offences.

The man was identified by the CCC during an ongoing investigation that is focusing on individuals accessing child exploitation material online.

Yesterday, CCC officers executed a search warrant on a residential address in Strathdickie. It will be alleged that the man was in possession of child exploitation material and was using peer to peer computer software to access and download child exploitation material, including image and movie files.

During the search, CCC officers also found a loaded firearm and it will be alleged that the man was not licensed to posses the weapon.

The man was served a Notice to Appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on 3 May 2016 to face the following charges:

  • 1 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 228D Qld Criminal Code 1899
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995
  • 1 x Unlawful possession of a weapon, contrary to section 50(1) Weapons Act 1990

The CCC’s investigation is ongoing. As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC is unable to comment further.
