The following statement can be attributed to Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) Chairman, Alan MacSporran QC.
The Crime and Corruption Commission is aware of recent media reporting and public concern about a number of incidents involving police and the use of force.
The use of force by police officers and the police discipline system are of particular interest to me and will be a focus of my chairmanship at the CCC.
I note the Queensland Police Service has announced its response to these latest issues.
However, I believe it is in the public interest to confirm that the CCC is also currently independently assessing two of these matters.
The CCC is also exploring a range of options for stronger oversight of allegations of excessive use of force and proposes to brief the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee (PCCC) on these options at the next meeting in October.
