A 54-year-old Brisbane school teacher has been arrested and charged with child exploitation offences following a covert Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.

The CCC will allege that the man was using peer to peer computer software at his house to access child exploitation material, including image and movie files.

CCC officers attended a residential address in Tingalpa last night (1 August 2016) and executed a search warrant. A computer was seized and will be forensically examined by the CCC.

The CCC’s investigation has not identified any offences related to his employment as a school teacher or offending against children under his supervision.

The man was taken to the Wynnum Watchhouse where he was formally charged with:

  • 1 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 228D Qld Criminal Code 1899
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to make available child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(iii)&(aa)(b) Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995

He was bailed and is scheduled to appear before the Wynnum Magistrates Court on 10 October 2016.

The Department of Education has been advised on the outcome of the investigation by the CCC.

The CCC’s investigation is ongoing. As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC is unable to comment further.
