A 46-year-old Rockhampton man was today charged for child exploitation offences and possession of a dangerous drug following an investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

The man was identified by the CCC during an ongoing investigation that is focused on individuals accessing and distributing child exploitation material online using peer to peer software.

CCC detectives executed a search warrant at a Rockhampton address today and were assisted by a member of the QPS Rockhampton Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU).

It will be alleged a quantity of child exploitation material, including video and image files were located.

The 46-year-old man was transported to the Rockhampton Police Station and charged with the following offences:

  • 1 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 228D (Qld Criminal Code 1899)
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to make available child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(iii)&(aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)
  • 1 x Possession of dangerous drug contrary to section 9 (Drugs Misuse Act 1986)
  • 1 x Possession of utensil that had been used in connection with consumption of dangerous drug contrary to section 10(2)(b) (Drugs Misuse Act 1986)

He was refused watchhouse bail and is expected to appear before the Rockhampton Magistrates Court this afternoon.

As the matter is now before the court, it is not appropriate to comment further at this time.
