A 50-year-old Algester man from South Brisbane Police District was served with a Notice to Appear in court today for the offences of misconduct in public office and the release of protected information following a joint Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) and Ethical Standards Command (ESC) investigation.

The CCC will allege the Detective requested a media outlet to assist with an unauthorised investigative strategy and also released protected information relating to ongoing investigations.

The man is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 6 December 2019 to face the following charges:

  • 2 x Misconduct in Public Office contrary to section 92A(1)(c) of the Queensland Criminal Code
  • 1 x Prohibition on communication or publication of protected information contrary to section 352(1)&(2) of the Police Powers and Responsibility Act 2000.

As this matter is before the court, it is not appropriate for the CCC to comment further.

The CCC is an independent agency combating major crime and reducing corruption for the benefit of the Queensland community.
