The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has closed the final phase of the joint CCC-Queensland Police Service (QPS) drug trafficking investigation, known as Operation Juliet Wave.
Operation Juliet Wave, led by the CCC’s organised crime team in partnership with Taskforce Maxima, focused on former members of the Centro Chapter of the Bandidos criminal motorcycle gang (CMG) and their criminal associates.
Since 17 October 2014, the CCC has charged three people with 120 drug-related offences. Some of these new charges were preferred against individuals previously charged as a result of Operation Juliet Wave.
At the completion of Operation Juliet Wave, a total of 62 people have been charged with 430 offences. This includes 13 persons being charged with the serious offence of drug-trafficking.
Proceeds of Crime
The CCC has commenced proceeds of crime action in the Supreme Court against two targets of Operation Juliet Wave. As at 4 December 2014, the CCC has successfully restrained assets and bank accounts to the value of $831,433.
The CCC expects to restrain more assets in the future.
Drug Seizures
Drugs with an estimated value of $2.9 million were seized throughout the two-year operation. This included crystal and liquid methylamphetamine (ice) with an estimated value of over $2 million.
Drugs seized included:
- Methylamphetamine (ice) – crystal, liquid, powder
- Anabolic steroids – liquid and tablets
- Amphetamines - powder
- Cannabis – leaf, plant, seeds
- Cocaine - powder
- Heroin - powder
- lysergide (LSD) - tablets
- ecstasy – powder and tablets
Property Seized
Property seized during the two-year operation included:
- computers and storage devices
- mobile phones
- vehicles
- jet skis
- cash
- drug utensils
- an air rifle
- a butterfly knife
- knuckledusters and nunchakus
- other illegal weapons.
Cash Seized
Over $313,000 cash was seized.
The criminal proceedings against the 62 people charged as a result of Operation Juliet Wave have commenced and therefore the CCC is unable to comment further.
