The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has today charged the national president of an OMCG with trafficking crystal methylamphetamine (ice).
The 39-year-old man from Millers Point (NSW) was identified during an ongoing CCC investigation, known as Operation Gloss.
Operation Gloss commenced in 2014 and has focused on the Queensland-based activities of a criminal syndicate that was allegedly producing and distributing methylamphetamine in Sydney and the Gold Coast.
The 39-year-old man was arrested by New South Wales Police on 24 October 2016 pursuant to a CCC arrest warrant. This morning the CCC formally charged the man with one count of drug trafficking. He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today at 2pm.
The crystal methylamphetamine market was assessed by the CCC in its 2015-16 Illicit Drug Markets Report as the drug that is causing the greatest harm to Queenslanders. CCC intelligence indicates organised crime are entrenched in the distribution of ice in Queensland.
13 people have now been charged as a result of Operation Gloss. This includes nine people on drug trafficking charges.
The CCC is limited in commenting further whilst this matter is before the courts. Operation Gloss remains ongoing.
