A 56-year-old man from Riordanvale, west of Airlie Beach, is due to appear in court on a child exploitation charge following an investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

While examining records on a file-sharing (peer-to-peer) network, CCC officers identified a user who was suspected of possessing child exploitation material.

CCC officers, with assistance from the Queensland Police Service’s Townsville Child Protection Investigation Unit, executed a search warrant at a Riordanvale property this morning.

Investigators seized computer storage devices. It will be alleged that the devices had previously contained child exploitation material.

The man was issued with a Notice to Appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on 20 January 2016 on one charge of possessing child exploitation material, contrary to section 228D of the Criminal Code (Qld).

The CCC’s investigation is ongoing. As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC is unable to comment further.
