The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) today charged a 30-year-old Cairns man with child exploitation offences.

The man was identified by the CCC during an ongoing investigation that is focused on individuals accessing and distributing child exploitation material online using peer to peer software.

CCC detectives executed a search warrant at a residential address in Cairns with the assistance of members of the Queensland Police Services’ Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU).

It will be alleged that a quantity of child exploitation material, including video and image files were located.

The 30-year-old man was issued a Notice To Appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 5 July 2016 to face the following charges:

  • 1 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 228D (Qld Criminal Code 1899)
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)
  • 6 x Use a carriage service to make available child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(iii)&(aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)

The CCC’s investigation is ongoing. As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC is unable to comment further.
