A 40-year-old man from New South Wales has been charged today with 15 serious offences including supplying and trafficking crystal methylamphetamine (ice), following an organised crime investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).
CCC Operation Gloss, commenced in 2014 and was focused on the Queensland-based activities of a criminal syndicate that was believed to be producing and distributing crystal methylamphetamine in Sydney and the Gold Coast. This investigation was conducted jointly with the New South Wales Police to address a network who it will be alleged were active in and impacting on both states. The arrest today occurred with the assistance of Task Force Maxima.
It will be alleged by the CCC that the 40-year-old man supplied and trafficked methylamphetamine throughout the Gold Coast region in 2014. He was arrested and taken to the Brisbane Watchhouse where he was formally charged with:
- 1 x trafficking in dangerous drugs, namely methylamphetamine, contrary to section 5 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
- 14 x supply a dangerous drug, namely methylamphetamine, contrary to section 6 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
The 40-year-old man will remain in custody overnight and will appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
As this investigation remains ongoing and these matters are now before the court, the CCC is unable to make any further comment.
