A 53-year-old Gold Coast man has been charged with 77 offences for allegedly producing, supplying and trafficking methylamphetamine after he was identified during an organised crime investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).
The CCC’s investigation, known as Operation Gloss, commenced in 2014 and is focused on the Queensland-based activities of a criminal syndicate that was believed to be producing and distributing methylamphetamine in Sydney and the Gold Coast.
The CCC will allege the man has trafficked, supplied and possessed methylamphetamine throughout the Gold Coast region.
This is the fourth person charged by the CCC with trafficking methylamphetamine as a result of Operation Gloss.
The man was charged by the CCC yesterday (20 March 2016). The CCC was assisted by the Queensland Police Service, particularly Taskforce Maxima, who provided tactical assistance over the course of the operation.
He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today to face the following charges:
- 1 x trafficking in dangerous drugs, namely methylamphetamine, contrary to section 5 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
- 66 x supply a dangerous drug, namely methylamphetamine, contrary to section 6 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
- 3 x produce a dangerous drug, namely methylamphetamine, contrary to section 8 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
- 2 x possession of dangerous drugs, namely methylamphetamine, contrary to section 9 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
- 1 x possession of suspected property, namely cash, contrary to section 10A of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
- 4 x possession of things for use in commission of a crime, namely precursor chemicals, contrary to section 10(1)(a) of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986.
As the investigation remains ongoing and these matters are now before the court, the CCC is unable to comment further.
