A 66-year-old Hervey Bay man who is the current Mayor of the Fraser Coast Regional Council was this afternoon arrested on a number of charges following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.

The CCC will allege in court the charges relate to his conduct whilst Mayor of the Fraser Coast Regional Council.

The man is expected to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on 18 January, 2018, in relation to the following charges:

2 x Misconduct in relation to public office contrary to section 92A(1)(c) of the Criminal Code.

1 x Disclosure of official secrets contrary to section 85 of the Criminal Code.

1 x Wilfully disclosing information contrary to section 213(2) of the Crime and Corruption Act 2001.

1 x Computer hacking and misuse contrary to section 408E(1) of the Criminal Code.

As the matter is now before the court, the CCC is unable to comment further.

The CCC is an independent agency combating major crime and reducing corruption for the benefit of the Queensland community.
