A 37-year-old Helensvale woman was charged today with perjury at Southport Police Station following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.

The CCC will allege the woman knowingly gave false testimony at a public hearing related to Operation Belcarra.

She has been charged with one count of perjury contrary to section 123 of the Queensland Criminal Code.

The woman was bailed and is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on 13 December, 2017.

Operation Belcarra investigated the conduct of candidates involved in the 2016 local government elections for the Gold Coast City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council Logan City Council and Ipswich City Council.

As this matter is now before the court, the CCC is unable to comment further.

The CCC is an independent agency combating major crime and reducing corruption for the benefit of the Queensland community.
