Family law specialist Ann Gummow has been appointed a Commissioner of the Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC).
CMC Chairperson Mr Robert Needham has welcomed Ms Gummow, who currently is part of the teaching team in legal professional practice at Griffith University’s Law School and School of Human Services.
‘I feel confident that Ms Gummow will make a valuable contribution to the work of the Commission,’ Mr Needham said.
She will assist the five-member Commission, which sets the CMC’s corporate policy and strategic directions.
The new Commissioner has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Queensland Institute of Technology. She was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in December 1983 and has since specialised in family law and domestic violence.
She currently works part time as a solicitor for the Women’s Legal Service, doing direct client work, community legal education, and contributing to law reform submissions.
Ms Gummow replaces Ms Suzette Coates, who resigned in December 2005 to take up an appointment as Stipendiary Magistrate in Cairns.
The Commission comprises a full-time Chairperson and four part-time Commissioners.
