The CMC has confirmed the director of misconduct investigations, Russell Pearce, has been released from his duties on full pay pending the completion of an investigation by the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee.
Due to legal restrictions the CMC cannot comment on details that relate specifically to the matter.
However, as obliged under the Crime and Misconduct Act 2001, the CMC yesterday reported to the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee (PCMC) issues raised regarding the unauthorised release of information.
All CMC misconduct investigations will now be overseen by the Assistant Commissioner Misconduct, Warren Strange, while the matter is being examined.
It is not appropriate for the CMC to comment any further about the matter in order to protect the integrity of the process and to respect parliamentary privilege.
