Crime and Misconduct Commission Chairperson Martin Moynihan AO QC has granted an extension of time to the Police Commissioner who was due to inform the CMC on Friday about his intended course of action against six police officers.
The officers were adversely mentioned in a recent CMC report which reviewed an internal Queensland Police Service review of the original police investigation into the November 2004 death of Mulrunji on Palm Island.
The Police Commissioner was directed to report within 14 days but requested the extension of time late yesterday after two of the affected police officers, who applied for an injunction last week, amended their application on Monday.
The officers are now seeking an injunction restraining the Police Commissioner or his delegate from complying with the CMC’s direction which requires an outline for an intended course of action for disciplinary action against six police officers.
In the interests of ensuring this matter is dealt with efficiently at the hearing for the requested injunction on Tuesday 6 July 2010, the CMC has granted the Police Commissioner until close of business on Tuesday 6 July to respond.
