Recent media coverage of the Police Commissioner’s decision to suspend a number of police officers has extended to speculation about the nature of a current Crime and Misconduct Commission investigation.

In July 2005, the CMC commenced a series of pro-active and covert inquiries, codenamed Operation Capri, into allegations involving possible police misconduct.

In part, the investigations extend to issues involving the propriety of certain relationships between police officers and convicted criminals. The allegations are wide ranging and complex.

The CMC recently briefed the Police Commissioner on the matter and as a result, the Queensland Police Service is now assisting with the investigations.

The investigations still have a considerable way to run, and are unlikely to be finalised for some months.

It would be inappropriate for the CMC to make any further public comment about the matter at this stage.
