The Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) has considered an investigation report into a complaint regarding a forced offer for entry into the University of Queensland’s 2011 medical program (MBBS).
On 25 January 2012, the CMC publicly announced it would commence an investigation after the Queensland Police Service referred a complaint by a member of the public regarding the commission of possible criminal offences in the matter.
In the latest move, the Commission (the Chairperson and four Commissioners) has agreed to a number of recommendations arising from the investigation report.
Among other conclusions, the Commission has determined that it is appropriate to prepare a public report on the matter.
A public report is different to an investigation report and will be tabled in Parliament at a date yet to be set.
The public report will also incorporate recommendations from two ongoing reviews earlier announced by the CMC and associated with the forced offer for entry.
These reviews address:
- the University of Queensland’s handling of a complaint concerning improper enrolment (first referred to the CMC by the University of Queensland’s Chancellor on 4 October 2011), focusing on broader aspects surrounding the University’s handling of and response to allegations concerning the Vice Chancellor and Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor; and
- quality issues arising out of the University’s overall management of official misconduct matters to help restore public confidence in the institution’s ability to deal with related allegations.
The CMC will make no further comment on the matter prior to the release of a public report.
