A Crime and Misconduct Commission operation has led to the jailing of one man and a suspended sentence for another man for attempting to pervert the course of a child custody hearing in the Federal Magistrates Court.
Thirty-seven year old Rodney John Renshaw and 38 year old Gary James Facey have both been sentenced to two years imprisonment in the Brisbane District Court for engaging a person to carry out an armed home invasion with the intention of intimidating a man involved in a child custody application.
Renshaw will serve two years imprisonment in custody and will be eligible for parole in three months, while Facey’s sentence is fully suspended.
Through the use of a shotgun, a man was to have been threatened into withdrawing his application for custody of his child from his ex-wife. The CMC intervened before the offence was carried out.
The CMC uncovered the information in May 2004 during a joint organised crime operation with the Australian Crime Commission and the Queensland Police Service into drug networks.
Investigators monitored the planned criminal activity and intervened when it became apparent that there was an immediate risk of serious injury to the targeted man.
