The Crime and Misconduct Commission will hold a one day public hearing in Cairns as part of its inquiry into policing in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities.

The public hearing will be held at the Cairns Convention Centre on Tuesday 16 October at 9.30 am.

During the next few weeks the CMC will be contacting relevant stakeholders inviting them to provide their views on policing and community relations at the public forum.

The hearing follows months of extensive consultation with local councils, community groups, and local police in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The project team is currently analysing 40 written submissions and has examined a large volume of other relevant research. The submissions will be posted on the CMC’s website in the next few weeks.

The hearing is open to the public and media. Separate advisories will be issued regarding media arrangements for the hearing and the public release of submissions.
