The Crime and Misconduct Commission has completed its investigation into allegations of corrupt conduct against the Mayor of Burnett Shire Council and has found the claims are not substantiated.
However, during the CMC investigation other matters came to light which the Commission has needed to address.
A report is to be sent to the Department of Local Government to consider prosecuting two people for alleged breaches of the Local Government Act 1993.
The CMC has also served two summonses charging a person with providing false and misleading information during the course of the investigation. This is an offence under section 217 of the Crime and Misconduct Act 2001 carrying a maximum punishment of 12 months' imprisonment.
The summonses are returnable in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 10 October 2006 and in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on 16 October 2006.
The CMC has advised the relevant people in writing.
