The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) will seek to extradite a target of an ice trafficking investigation from New South Wales to Queensland today to face a drug trafficking offence after he was detected at Sydney International Airport attempting to leave the country.
The CCC issued an arrest warrant for the 35-year-old man from Colyton NSW (Western Sydney) in June 2016 after identifying him during Operation Gloss, an investigation conducted jointly with the New South Wales Police that was focused on the Queensland-based activities of a criminal syndicate that was allegedly producing and distributing crystal methylamphetamine (ice) in Sydney and the Gold Coast.
On Saturday 10 September 2016, the 35-year-old man was identified by Australian Border Force officers at Sydney International Airport and was subsequently arrested by the Australian Federal Police on the grounds of the CCC’s arrest warrant. He was remanded in custody.
CCC officers will travel to Sydney today to attend a court hearing at Sydney Central Court to apply for the extradition. If the man is extradited, it is expected he will face the Brisbane Magistrates Court later this week
More information about Operation Gloss can be found here.
The CCC is limited in commenting further while this matter progresses through the courts.
