The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has charged a 43-year-old male primary school teacher with possessing and accessing child exploitation material.
Detectives from the CCC’s Cerberus Unit and investigators from the CCC’s Forensic Computing Unit executed a search warrant at a property at Ningi, north of Brisbane, last night (16 June 2015). The CCC was assisted by the Queensland Police Service’s Caboolture Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU).
Investigators seized a laptop computer and located a storage device, which had allegedly been hidden. The CCC will allege they contained more than 7000 encrypted child exploitation images and videos.
A 43-year-old Ningi man was arrested and taken to the Caboolture Watch House where he was charged with the following offences:
- 2 counts of possessing child exploitation material, contrary to section 228D Queensland Criminal Code
- 1 count of using a carriage service to access child pornography material, contrary to section 474.19 Commonwealth Criminal Code
The man is a teacher at a primary school north of Brisbane and is also a member of extra-curricular groups involving children. The CCC has notified the Department of Education and Training.
The man was granted watch house bail on the condition he not have any unsupervised contact with children.
He is scheduled to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on 23 July 2015.
The CCC’s investigation is ongoing. As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC will not provide any further information.
