The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has charged a 51-year-old Sergeant from the Queensland Police Service (QPS) with assault occasioning actual bodily harm whilst armed.

The CCC will allege the Sergeant assaulted a member of the public who was in the Richlands Watchhouse on 9 August 2015.

A number of other police officers remain under investigation in relation to whether they responded appropriately to the incident.

The QPS Ethical Standards Command notified the CCC of this incident. The CCC understands the officer was stood down by the QPS in September 2015.

The 51-year-old Sergeant was today formally charged with:

  • 1 x assault occasioning actual bodily harm whilst armed contrary to Section 339(1) and 339(3) of the Queensland Criminal Code.

He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 2 February 2016.

As this matter is now before the court the CCC is unable to comment further.
