A 30-year-old West Ipswich man will appear in court today on more than 20 child exploitation offences following a covert investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).
The CCC’s criminal paedophilia team, Cerberus, identified this man and will allege he was using the internet to access and make available child exploitation material.
Further inquiries by the CCC identified the man was an active scout leader.
CCC detectives and the CCC forensic computing unit, with assistance from the QPS Ipswich Child Protection Investigation Unit, executed a search warrant at a West Ipswich address yesterday (19 April 2015).
A number of cameras, computer equipment and electronic storage devices were seized. It will be alleged these devices contained child exploitation material.
Following examination of the seized devices, the CCC identified other child exploitation material that it will allege was made by the 30-year-old man.
The man was charged yesterday (19 April 2015) by the CCC with the following offences:
- 3 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material, s.228D Qld Criminal Code 1899.
- 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material, s.474.19(1)(a)(i) & (aa)(b) Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995
