A 27-year-old Cairns man has been charged with child exploitation offences following an investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

The CCC, and Cairns Queensland Police Service CPIU officers, executed a search warrant on the man’s Cairns home today and the CCC will allege in court that the man owned a laptop computer which contained child exploitation material.

He was taken to the Cairns Watch-house and charged with:

  • 1 x Possessing child exploitation material contrary to section 228D of the Criminal Code;
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) of the Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995.

The man was granted bail and is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 21 December 2017.

As these matters are now before the court the CCC is unable to comment further.

The CCC is an independent agency combating major crime and reducing corruption for the benefit of the Queensland community.
