A 73-year-old Gailes man and a 38-year-old Strathpine man face a range of serious criminal offences after the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) identified them allegedly in possession of child exploitation material.

It will be alleged that both men were using computer software to access child exploitation material, including image and movie files. A number of computer and electronic storage devices were forensically examined by the CCC.

The 73-year-old man was charged last Friday (28 October 2016) following the execution of a search warrant by CCC officers and members of the Queensland Police Service's - Ipswich Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU).

He was served with a Notice To Appear before the Ipswich Magistrates Court on 11 November 2016 to face the following charges:

  • 2 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 288D of the Qld Criminal Code 1899;
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) of the Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995;
  • 1 x Make child exploitation material contrary to section 228B of the Qld Criminal Code 1899; and
  • 1 x Distribute child exploitation material contrary to section 228C of the Qld Criminal Code 1899.

The 38-year-old man was charged today with the following offences and was served with a Notice To Appear before the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on 12 December 2016:

  • 2 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 288D of the Qld Criminal Code 1899;
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) of the Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995; and
  • 1 x Make child exploitation material contrary to section 228B of the Qld Criminal Code 1899.

As these matters are now before the court, it is not appropriate for the CCC to comment further.
