The latest in anti-corruption trends and strategies will be showcased at Australia’s first public sector anti-corruption conference to be held in Sydney later this year.
The Australian Public Sector Anti-Corruption (APSAC) Conference 2007 is a joint initiative of the country’s leading anti-corruption bodies comprising the New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the Queensland Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) and the Western Australian Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC).
The ICAC Commissioner the Hon Jerrold Cripps, the CMC Chairperson Robert Needham and the CCC Commissioner the Hon Len Roberts-Smith RFD QC say Australian and international delegates will have the opportunity to learn from and be challenged by leading experts and practitioners.
‘Delegates will be provided with relevant and up-to-date information to improve their understanding and their ability to deal with corruption risks facing the public sector,’ Commissioner Cripps said.
‘This inaugural conference will be highly relevant to senior police, local government, policy advisors, internal auditors, public sector officers, human resources specialists and universities.’
Conference topics will explore areas such as managing identity fraud, guarding against corruption risks in contracting and offshore operations, best practice for managing whistleblower complaints and strategies for dealing with conflicts of interest.
Sessions have also been tailored for the higher education sector, local government, police and the public sector.
‘Many organisations will benefit from attending this conference particularly in a continuing environment where our communities expect more and more of the public sector when it comes to integrity,’ Mr Needham said.
‘We are delighted to have attracted many eminent Australian and international speakers, including the Hon Justice James Spigelman AC, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of NSW, who is the keynote speaker at the official opening session.’
Other keynote speakers include Commissioner Cripps, the Hong Kong ICAC Commissioner Fanny Law GBS and Frank Anechiarico, Maynard Knox Professor of Government and Law, Hamilton College, New York. Mr Needham, Commissioner Roberts-Smith and NSW Police Integrity Commissioner John Pritchard will also be active participants in the conference.
The Conference partners are the NSW, Queensland and WA Departments of the Premier and Cabinet, and the NSW Police Integrity Commission (PIC).

The APSAC Conference will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney from Tuesday 23 to Friday 26 October 2007. Conference sessions will be held on 24 and 25 October, with the remaining two days devoted to workshops.
