Lobbying, procurement fraud, police oversight and whistleblowing are just some ofthe topics that will be examined at the Australian Public Sector Anti-Corruption Conference (APSACC) from 15 – 17 November in Fremantle, Western Australia.
The conference is the nation’s leading anti-corruption conference with this year’s theme A Global Compass — Navigating Public Sector Corruption.
It is a joint initiative of three of the nation’s leading anti-corruption agencies, the Corruption and Crime Commission (WA), the Crime and Misconduct Commission (Queensland) and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (NSW).
Corruption and Crime Commission Acting Commissioner, Mark Herron, said recent cases around the country show government agencies pay a high price in terms of reputation, staff morale and effectiveness when serious misconduct in their agency is revealed.
“The key is to become aware of the risks which lead to serious misconduct.
“That’s where this conference is unique. It enables public administrators to come together, share experiences, learn from them and apply that knowledge to the particular corruption risks they face in their own agency,” he said.
APSACC 2011 has more than 80 speakers and panellists including the Police Commissioners from six states and territories, anti-corruption practitioners, representatives of agencies who have had to deal with serious corruption issues and international experts.
Practical case studies from investigations conducted by each of the host agencies will be a feature of this year’s conference and includes examples from local government, law and order and universities.
There will also be detailed presentations of overseas corruption experiences.
The conference is approved for seven CPD points by the WA Legal Practice Board and legal practitioners from other states may also be eligible.

Early bird registrations save $450 off the standard registration and close on Wednesday 27 July. More than 200 delegates have already registered for this, the third APSAC Conference. Previous conferences were held in Brisbane in 2009 and Sydney in 2007.
