A major drug syndicate has been shut down on the Gold Coast only days before the start of schoolies week by a joint Queensland Police/CMC operation.
Raids were carried out on 25 homes and businesses across the Gold Coast today as a result of Operation Golf Brazen. Today’s raids resulted in 10 people being arrested on 55 charges.
Four men and one woman were charged with trafficking and will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
In total, the 10-month operation has netted over $750,000 in cash, 4.5 kilograms of MDMA powder, 7500 MDMA tablets, two pill presses as well as a quantity of amphetamines and cocaine.
Today’s raids resulted in the seizure of $367,000 in cash, two motor vehicles and a motorcycle, suspected of being the proceeds of crime.
The CMC’s Inspector Don Mabbutt said around 70 Police and CMC personnel have been involved in the operation.
‘The success of Operation Golf Brazen demonstrates the value of joint agency operations involving policing and the CMC’s expertise in financial investigations,’ Inspector Mabbutt said.
Detective Superintendent John Pointing of the Queensland Police Service State Drug and Property Crime Group said the operation was timely especially in the lead up to Schoolies week.
'Removing illicit drugs from the streets is always a priority, however with Schoolies due to begin this week it is certainly comforting to know a vast quantity of drugs have been removed not only as a result of this closure but also through recent operations undertaken by the State Drug Investigation Unit.'
