Acknowledgment of Country
In keeping with the spirit of Reconciliation, the CCC respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of this land, and Elders past, present and emerging.
The CCC also recognises those whose ongoing effort to protect and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures will leave a lasting legacy for future Elders and leaders.
National Reconciliation Week 2022
The CCC understands that reconciliation is not one single issue or one single agenda; it’s about unity.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW), held from 27 May to 3 June, is an occasion when we specifically commemorate significant events in Australia’s ongoing reconciliation journey. On 27 May 1967, a referendum was held in which Australians voted in favour of amending the Australian Constitution so that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders would, henceforth, be counted in the census. Twenty-five years later, on 3 June 1992, the High Court of Australia handed down a decision which introduced native title into our law. Another significant point in the reconciliation journey was the 2008 National Apology to the Stolen Generations which was delivered by the then-Prime Minister of Australia.
Especially during NRW, the CCC acknowledges the contributions of our First Nations people, celebrates Indigenous culture, reflects on the relationship between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and considers the role that we can each play to foster greater unity within our society. This year, we’re embracing NRW’s theme of Be Brave. Make Change to reflect on how we – as an organisation and individuals – can take action to contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The CCC seeks to partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to form lasting relationships based on mutual trust, respect and understanding in order to support our commitment for all Queenslanders to feel safe in the communities in which they live. Our reconciliation journey is underpinned by our Reconciliation Action Plan, through which we are working to build on our existing capabilities to further develop and foster trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
