This Research and Issues Paper reviews published literature about suspected homicide of older people, to assist in the investigation of these crimes by Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) or police investigators. The paper includes information about victim vulnerabilities, nature of the offences, characteristics and motives of offenders, and investigative and prosecutorial challenges. Although police and CMC investigators are the paper’s primary audience, it will also be a useful reference for professionals such as clinicians, ambulance officers or aged care professionals who may encounter older people at risk of becoming homicide victims.
