CMC investigation continuing following raids — 01.02.2010

Speculation that criminal proceedings are imminent following searches conducted yesterday by the Crime and Misconduct Commission is ill-founded, according to Director of CMC Misconduct Investigations, Mr Russell Pearce.

On Sunday morning, officers from the CMC and the Ethical Standards Command of the Queensland Police Service executed search warrants on premises in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Certain police stations were also entered, and relevant documents were seized.

‘The activities undertaken on Sunday were part of an investigation that is likely to be continued for some time,’ Mr Pearce said.

‘The evidence gathered yesterday will be assessed as part of an ongoing police misconduct investigation that, until yesterday, was being progressed by the CMC in a covert manner.’

‘A police officer has been suspended on the basis of evidence discovered on Sunday morning, but no consideration has yet been given to bringing any criminal charges,’ he said.
