CMC releases submissions into policing in Indigenous communities — 18.09.2007

The Crime and Misconduct Commission has publicly released submissions for its Inquiry into policing in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The submissions have been posted on the CMC’s website and are available to interested parties to fully inform themselves about the issues relevant to the Inquiry. The issues from the submissions will also contribute to the public hearing in Cairns next month.

A total of 40 submissions have been received from a range of groups and individuals including the Departments of Child Safety, Corrective Services and Health, the Queensland Police Service, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Legal Service and Torres Strait Island Community Police.

The CMC’s public hearing will be held on Tuesday 16 October at the Cairns Convention Centre (Cnr Wharf and Sheridan Streets) at 9.00am. Following the inquiry, the CMC will present a report to State Parliament early next year.
