Following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation, a serving police officer will face criminal charges for allegedly warning a drug dealer that an informant was providing police with information about him and for allegedly disclosing the name of the drug informant.

The CCC will allege the 37-year-old constable from the South Eastern Region unlawfully disclosed the name of an informant on two occasions.

The constable will also face criminal misconduct charges for allegedly failing to act on information from the informant which he obtained in the course of his role as a police officer.

The 37-year-old man was this afternoon served with a Notice to Appear in Court on the following charges:

  • 1 x Misconduct in relation to public office contrary to section 92A(1)(a) of the Queensland Criminal Code
  • 1 x Misconduct in relation to public office contrary to section 92A(1)(b) of the Queensland Criminal Code or the alternate charge of 1 x Refusal by public officer to perform duty contrary to section 200 of the Queensland Criminal Code
  • 2 x Protection informers contrary to section 119(2) of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986

He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 12 November 2015.

The CCC has advised the QPS Ethical Standards Command of these charges.

As the matters are now before the court, the CCC will not comment further.
