Police officer charged for unauthorised access and disclosure of confidential information - 17 May 2016

A 38-year-old current serving Constable was today charged for the alleged unauthorised use of the Queensland Police Service's Qprime database system following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.

The Southern Region police officer was served with a Notice To Appear in court  to face the following charges:

  • 1 x Improper disclosure of information contrary to section 10.1(1) Police Service Administration Act 1990
  • 1 x Misconduct in relation to public office contrary to section 92A(1)(a) Queensland Criminal Code 1899 with an alternate charge of Computer hacking and misuse contrary to section 408E (1) & (2) Queensland Criminal Code 1899

The man is expected to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on 7 June 2016.

As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC is unable to comment further.

Last week the CCC released a report titled Confidential information: Unauthorised access, disclosure and the risks of corruption in the Queensland public sector to coincide with Privacy Awareness Week. The report can be found on the CCC’s website at  http://www.ccc.qld.gov.au/confidential-information
