North Queensland man to appear in court on child exploitation charges — 19.11.2015
A 50-year-old Ingham man is scheduled to appear in court on child exploitation charges following an investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).
During a covert investigation, CCC officers allegedly detected the man using a file-sharing (peer-to-peer) network to collect, distribute and possess child exploitation material.
CCC officers, with assistance from the Queensland Police Service (including officers from the Townsville Child Protection Investigation Unit), executed search warrants at two addresses in Ingham today (19 November 2015). It will be alleged that at one of the addresses they seized a laptop computer and computer storage devices which contained child exploitation material.
The man has been issued with a Notice to Appear in the Ingham Magistrates Court on 28 January 2016 on the following charges:
- 16 x Use a carriage service to make available child pornography material, contrary to section 474.19 of the Criminal Code (Commonwealth)
- 3 x possessing child exploitation material, contrary to section 228D of the Criminal Code (Qld)
- 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material, contrary to section 474.19 of the Criminal Code (Commonwealth)
The CCC’s investigation is ongoing. As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC is unable to comment further.
